The Charlotte Student Homelessness Crisis

Growing Crisis in Our Classrooms

Total Identified Homeless Students (2023-2024): 4,592 students experiencing homelessness in CMS

Recent data shows a significant spike in homelessness among CMS students across the Charlotte area. Behind each statistic is a child trying to learn while carrying the overwhelming burden of housing insecurity.

Homelessness Is A Traumatic Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE)

Generates chronic, toxic stress that adversely affects brain development, heightening the risk of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Additionally, homelessness presents significant obstacles to completing high school and achieving future stability.

Supporting Students & Empowering Parents

Student homelessness is a family issue. While we provide immediate safe housing and trauma recovery for the student, we actively partner with parents to address the root housing crisis.
